The Truth About Baby Insomnia
Insomnia seems like a problem that only adults deal with – after all, who ever expected that babies, who
spend all their time sleeping, would have trouble falling asleep? But the truth of the matter is: baby insomnia is real and it can be a very huge
problem for new parents. First-time parents especially have a hard time coping with baby insomnia
because they don’t have any special “tricks” to help them try and get a baby back to sleep. However,
there are some things parents can do to try and deal with baby insomnia and most options are fairly easy.
To be able to deal with baby insomnia you have to understand what it is. No matter who is the one
suffering from it, insomnia means one thing: not being able to stay asleep once you’re asleep or not being able to
fall asleep at all. In a great deal of cases, insomnia occurs in a person because of light-related stress:
job worries or bill worries are a huge factor in it, which explains why few people think baby insomnia can be real,
because what do babies have to worry over? But many physicians agree that baby insomnia is real and can
affect babies just like it does adults.
It’s very unlikely that a doctor will actually prescribe any kind of medication for insomnia to an infant –
the medication would be far too likely to cause problems in the baby’s rain development. Instead, doctors
often point to a rather simple solution that usually works: investing in a white noise machine to help babies sleep
at night. White noise machines are made with the intent of drowning out all the sounds in the room – they
actually either absorb sounds or eliminate them so that babies don’t get woken up by noises that disturb them in
the night. These machines work because they give the mind a specific sound to zone in on – and when the mind
focuses on one sound, it automatically blocks most other sounds out, meaning that noises likely to wake a baby up
are ignored.
However, if you want to try a more natural remedy, try putting the infant on a very strict schedule.
This means that a baby should be put to sleep and woken up – or be allowed to wake up – at the same time every
day. This trains the body into a type of cycle that then continues; the baby becomes tired around the time it
should be going to sleep. These are some of the best ways of curing baby insomnia.
